EarthWalk Vermont, founded in 2005, is a nonprofit community and nature-based education organization located on Goddard College Campus in Plainfield, Vermont. EarthWalk’s mission is to inspire and empower children, families and communities to reconnect with and care for one another and the Earth. EarthWalk offers year-round education programs including EarthWalk Village School, After-school programs, Summer Camps, Mentor Apprenticeship and a growing Field Institute for adults. EarthWalk is an affiliate of the Wilderness Awareness School of Duval, Washington, which is a guiding partner in a network of over three hundred nature mentoring schools located around the world.


Job Summary

The Finance Manager plays a leadership role managing financial functions of the organization. The Finance Manager ensures a high degree of professionalism, quality customer service and exemplary community relations. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal and financial management skills with excellent attention to detail. The Finance Manager will organize and implement standard operating procedures concerning financial systems. Finance Manager responsibilities include bookkeeping and data management.



  • The Finance Manager reports to the Executive Director.

  • The Finance Manager does not oversee any staff.

  • The Finance Manager works closely with the Development Manager, Youth Programs Director and Executive Director to comprise the Administrative Team that works collaboratively to understand and ensure financial and operational well-being.



This is a part-time hourly position requiring 10 hours/week, on-site Monday and Tuesday.  


Job Responsibilities

  • Manage accounts payable by implementing regular bookkeeping protocols;

  • Manage and transfer information from program registration software (CampBrain) into Quickbooks to maintain accurate accounts receivable;

  • Reconcile accounts receivable and donations with subsidiary ledgers (CampBrain and Little Green Light);

  • Manage student enrollment, account payments  and financial aid;

  • Generate, interpret and analyze  monthly financial statements as well as other financial reports requested by the Executive Director, staff and board and work to ensure reports are accurate and up to date;

  • Assist Executive Director in preparing and monitoring the annual budget;

  • Support Executive Director, staff and Board with developing organizational financial strategy;

  • Coordinate relationships with vendors, service providers and landlord, ensuring that all items are invoiced and paid on time;

  • Organize and implement standard operating procedures concerning financial systems;

  • Process  weekly time sheets and submit payroll information to payroll processor;

  • Ensure filing and record keeping systems are maintained and current; and

  • Ensure security, integrity and confidentiality of data.


Required Qualifications

  • An interest in nature-based education and the EarthWalk mission;

  • A Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent experience,  plus 3 years of business and financial management (nonprofit experience preferred);

  • A friendly presence with an ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of people, including coworkers, parents, community members and collaborators;

  • Possess strong attention to detail, a high level of integrity, a positive attitude and comfort with self-direction;

  • Well organized, task oriented, flexible and enjoys the administrative challenges of supporting an office of diverse people;

  • Highly competent  in using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, online databases and Quickbooks accounting software.


Preferred Qualifications

  • A desire to commit long term;

  • Familiarity with payroll processing services such as ADP; and

  • A commitment to improvement through professional development.


Physical Requirements

  • Able to sit at a desk and work in an office setting to execute job responsibilities;

  • Proficiently use computer-based software programs.
