EarthWalk's Response to COVID-19
April 3, 2020
Dear EarthWalk Community,
We hope you are staying healthy and well in these uncertain and uncharted times, and finding the time and space to greet the emerging flowers and birdsong of the oncoming spring.
As a small non-profit organization, the sudden and increasing public health crisis of COVID-19 has brought EarthWalk unprecedented challenges.
Even though the blackbirds are singing and crocuses are blooming, EarthWalk over the next four months (or longer) will be going into dormancy during this pandemic. This current situation of having to close programs for an extended period of time is beyond anything we could have ever anticipated. We are suspending all programming and employing no staff, with the board managing core functions to keep the embers of EarthWalk alight during this time of rest..
With the unfortunate circumstances and state emergency ‘shelter in place’ orders, we can give ourselves needed time to reflect, re-invigorate and re-imagine EarthWalk on the other side of Covid-19. We are taking time to focus on our loved ones, neighbors and those who are most vulnerable. We do know this virus will be over some day, and we will join together in Hawthorn Meadow once again. Until then….
Goddard College is a Covid-19 Recovery site
As many of you know, since 2005, the Goddard College campus has been EarthWalk’s home. During this pandemic, Goddard College is working closely with the State of Vermont to have the campus serve as a facility for COVID-19 patients to recover, at least through June 2020. EarthWalk is in full support to help people in need at this critical time.
School year programs: 2019-20
Regretfully, we have closed the Village School, After School, and Coyote Kids programs for the rest of the 2019-20 school year, in compliance with the state of Vermont public school closings.
Summer Camp 2020
Because of the uncertainty that Covid-19 brings, combined with Goddard College becoming a recovery site for Covid-19 patients, summer camps are cancelled for 2020 and registration has been closed. If you have registered your child(ren) for Summer camp, we have sent you a separate email with further details. If you did not receive this email, please let us know!
When the virus clears and it is safe to be together, we will offer a gathering of EarthWalk families to connect with the land and one another. We are exploring ways for mentors and campers to connect with one another and the earth in the future, and will keep in touch as any opportunities become possible.
EarthWalk needs your help
We know that every single one of you must be having a hard time right now with the COVID-19 pandemic and the big changes in our lives. We also know that we each are doing our best to support one another as best we can. If you could support EarthWalk in any way, such as researching relief efforts for non-profits; fundraising; supporting on-line learning, envisioning life after Covid-19, or in other ways, please let us know! You can email the EarthWalk board at firstname.lastname@example.org. Or click here to donate. Thank you!
In the coming weeks, EarthWalk volunteers will be increasing fundraising efforts, as well as looking into relief programs for nonprofits and small businesses. This, along with the generosity of our current families, donors and partners will keep the mission and vision alive in these times of uncertainty. We cannot know what the future holds, though we can work together to move through these times with grace and humility.
We are wishing you and your loved ones the best of health and spirits, and hope you are able to find peace and grounding in each other and nature.
